STADTKIRCHE
LAURENTIUS
Nach Plänen des Spandauer Regierungsbau-
inspektors Butzke vom Berliner Sauführer
Dossow im Rundbogenstil Schinkels erbaut.
Die Grundsteinlegung erfolgte am 3. Septem-
ber 1838, die Kirchweihe am 31. Mai 1841 in
Anwesenheit des Königs Friedrich Wilhelm IV.
und seiner Gattin.
Der Vorgängerbau, eine Kirche aus behau-
enen Granitsteinen, aus dem 13. Jahrhundert,
musste 1837 wegen schwerer Unterspülun-
gen in den Fundamenten abgerissen werden.
Im Laufe der Jahre wurde der Backsteinbau
mit rechteckigem Grundriss mehrfach res-
tauriert und saniert, zuletzt 1984, der Turm
2004.

This was built according to plans drawn up
by Butzke, the building advisor to the Span-
dau district council and by the Berlin architect.
The church features the rounded arches typical of the Schinkel
school of architecture. The foundation stone
was laid on 3rd September 1838; with the
consecration of the church taking place on
31st May 1841, in the presence of King
Friedrich Wilhelm IV and his spouse.
The previous building, a stone church dating
from the 13th century, had to be demolished
in 1837 because its foundations had been
completely washed away. Over the course
of the years, the rectangular brick building
was restored and renovated several times,
most recently in 1984. The tower was restored
in 2004.
