LUISENHAIN
Der Kaufmann und Fabrikant Karl Otto Asseburg
(1836-1915) schenkte 1906 der Stadt Köpenick sein
dem Rathaus gegenüber gelegenes und bis an die
Dahme reichendes Grundstück. Als Bedingung stellte
er, die darauf stehenden Gebäude abzureißen und
die freigelegte Fläche zur Ehrung seiner verstorbenen
Schwester Luise auf ewige Zeiten als Schmuckplatz
anzulegen.
Unter dem Namen Luisenhain wurde 1908 diese erste
öffentliche Grünanlage der Stadt ihrer Bestimmung
übergeben. Seit 1924 gibt es hier die Dampferanlege-
stelle. Im Jahr 1958 wurde das Ufer bis zur Langen
Brücke und Ende der 1960er Jahre bis zur Damm-
brücke für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht.

LUISENHAIN
A stretch of land opposite the town hall, reaching as
far as the river Dahme, was given as a gift to the town
of Köpenick by the businessman and manufacturer
Karl Otto Asseburg (1836-1915). A condition of gift-
ing this land was that the buildings upon it should be
pulled down, and that the area formerly occupied by
them should become an ornamental square, dedicated
in perpetuity to the memory of his late sister Luise,
known as Luisenhain, this, the first public green space
in the town, was officially opened in 1908. Since 1924,
steam pleasure boats have been moored on the river
bank here. In 1958, the river bank was made accessible
to the public as far as the Long Bridge, and, at the end
of the 1960's, this public access was extended as far
as the Embankment Bridge.
