Das Haus wurde 1875 für den Gastwirt
Carl Streichan (1841-1902) erbaut. Wenn es
zur Zeit seiner Entstehung in der Lokalpresse
als Hotel Kaiserhof propagiert wurde, fand es
dennoch nie in den Charakter eines Beher-
bergungsunternehmens: es blieb beim Gast-
stättenbetrieb. Dafür wurde 1882 auf dem
Hof ein großer Saal mit Billardzimmer ange-
baut und 1894 gründlich modernisiert.
Der Sohn des Gründers, Richard Streichan
(1877-1952), der Haus und Gaststätte 1912
übernahm, nutzte den Saal ab 1913 für kine-
matographische Vorführungen. Als Filmtheater
erhielt er 1921 folgerrichtig den Namen
Kaiserhof-Lichtspiele, die dann ab 1927 als
Lichtpalast firmierten. Die Gaststätte
Restaurant Kaiserhof existierte noch bis 1937,
der Lichtpalast schloss 1968.
2001/2002 wurde das Haus im Rahmen des
Förderprogramms Städtebaulicher Denkmal-
schutz aufwendig rekonstruiert.

The house was built in 1875 for the innkeeper
Carl Streichan (1841-1902). Although, when
ist opened, it was promoted in the local press
as the Hotel Kaiserhof, it was never used as
guest accomodation, but simply as a restau-
rant. In 1882, a large hall, which also con-
tained a billiard room, was built on the court-
yard, and this building was thoroughly mod-
ernised in 1894. The founder’s son, Richard
Streichan (1877-1952), took over the house
and restaurant in 1912, and from 1913 on-
wards he used the hall for publicfilm [!] shows.
So it was logical that this film theatre should
then be renamed Kaiserhof-Lichtspiele.
In 1927, it was renamed once again, this time
trading under the name Lichtpalast. The res-
taurant Restaurant Kaiserhof remained in
existence until 1937, and the cinema finally
closed in 1968.
Between 2001 and 2002, the building was
completely restored as part of the scheme for
the protection of civic buildings of historical
interest.
