Gedenkort Güterbahnhof Moabit
Der Güterbahnhof Moabit war der größte
Deportationsbahnhof des nationalsozialis.
tischen Regimes in Berlin. Etwa 30.000
Menschen wurden von den Gleisen 69, 81 und
82 deportiert. Nur wenige haben überlebt.
Die Geschichte dieses Ortes wurde über
Jahrzehnte hinweg verdrängt, vernach-
lässigt und schließlich ab den 1990er Jahre
der Grundstücksverwertung und der Ver-
kehrsplanung nachgeordnet. So sind heute
lediglich Fragmente des Gleises 69,
die Spundwand der Militärrampe sowie der
Pflasterweg zur Quiztowstraße erhalten.
Nach über 25 Jahren gelang es dank der
Zusammenarbeit einzelner Personen,
Initiativen, dem Land Berlin und dem Bezirks-
amt Mitte von Berlin 2016 einen Kunst-
wettbewerb auszuloben, um diesen ort und
seine Geschichte der Landkarte der
Berliner Erinnerungskultur hinzuzufügen.
Der kleine Kiefernhain fügt diesem Ort ein
weiteres Fragment hinzu und löst ihn zugleich
aus dem unwirtlichen Stadtraum heraus.
Unter den Kronen der langsam wachsenden
Bäume wird hier über Jahrzehnte ein Raum
der Erinnerung entstehen.

Moabit Freight Station was the National
Socialist regime's biggest deportataion
station in Berlin. About 30,000 people were
deported from platforms 69, 81 and 82.
Only a few survived.
The history of this site was suppressed
and neglected for years and, in the 1990s,
subordinated to the interests of traffic plan-
ning and business. All that remains today
are fragmants of platform 69, the piling of
the military ramp and the path to Quitzow-
straße. After more than 25 years, and thanks
to the cooperation of individuals, action
groups, the State of Berlin and the municipal
authority for the district of Mitte, an art
competition was held in 2016 calling for pro-
posals that would make this place part of
Berlin's memorial culture.
The small grove of Scots pine adds another
fragment to the site and, at the same time,
sets this space apart from its inhospitable
urban context. Beneath the crowns
of these slowly growing trees, a place of
remembrance will emerge over decades.

Oberhalb des Texters befindet sich eine Übersichtsdarstellung des Güterbahnhofes mitsamt des Deportationsweges.
Der Gedenkort Güterbahnhof Moabit wurde am 11. Juni 2017 offiziell eingeweiht. Die Realisierung übernahm das Künstlerkollektiv raumlabor.
